Port of Spain

Stream: Blind - Port Of Spain

August 11, 2016 in stream

Blind is one of those tracks that had me with about the first ten seconds. From the moment vocalist Amy Rose's hushed voice materialises the debut single from Port Of Spain is utterly captivating.

Combining softly beating electronic basslines that rumble like organic lifeforms, rubbing up against a stark rim shot the echoes like it was recorded in the cavernous warehouse next door. It's at once fragile, nervously optimistic and enchantingly seductive, the duo's deep blue Bondi Beach home permeating directly into their music.

The band describe the track: "'Blind' was actually written about three years ago and originally we arranged it with just piano and harp but we felt like the lyric deserved more depth than just an acoustic vibe. The song is all about learning to let go of other people's expectations of you and how caring less instead of more is sometimes a really healthy thing.”

Stream: Like You - Exes

August 10, 2016 in stream

Following on from previous singles Twentythousand and 18, duo Allie McDonald and Mike Derenzo are back with another new slice of ice cold synth-pop R&B in the form of Like You.

The song is inspired by an actual relationship of McDonald's - describing the song she says:

“‘Like You’ is a very real song about a very real boy I fell quickly and unrealistically for. Although the subject matter is a bit sad, the bouncy playfulness of the production adds an aspect of teenage naivety. Even in adulthood, relationships can be immature and overdramatic, and I think "Like You" really showcases that.”

The track has just been picked up by Spotify for their 'Indie Pop!' playlist, further evidence that these guys have great things ahead of them. Check out Like You now...
