Stream: Better With You - Michl

I’ve not covered anything from Mura Masa in a long time, but this is just wonderful.

Michl has previously toured with Mura Masa, Elohim and Bao (of Vampire Weekend), giving you some idea of the wonky pop music he specialises in.

A collaboration between LA based musician Michl and Mura Masa, Better With You is a surprising song that manages to be one part earnest ballad and one part future electro R&B joint. With heartfelt lyrics, simple piano keys and boatload of distorted bass this track is wonderfully all over the place.

I love the simplicity of the message of this track. In Michl’s own words:

"I tend to do overcomplicate everything. But sometimes there isn't much to mess up. When you love and are loved back, everything else becomes irrelevant."

I've covered Mura Masa a couple of times over the past year - once for his remix of HARTEBEEST's Drums and also for his collaboration with Billie Black on the awesome This Simple Pleasure. He's just put his new EP up on Soundcloud and you need to hear it - lots of wonky emotional R&B with Mura Masa's fantastic production work all over it.

It's been around for a few weeks but I've only just discovered it - Billie Black has followed up her impressive R&B number I Don't Need Another Lover with this collaboration with Mura Masa (who I featured back in April for a lovely remix of HARTEBEEST's Drums). If anything, it's even better. Jump in.

Drums dropped into my inbox a little while ago but its dreamy, ethereal pop has been growing on me since then. This is the second track from the production duo and it is already out, but they've just put this grimey mix from Mura Masa that blends some serious bass together with blissful piano keys to create a weird yet intoxicating combination.
