Bell Always

Your Eyes

Premiere: Your Eyes - Bell Always

July 16, 2018 in premiere, stream

Ahead of their debut album Daylight Slowly Fades, alternative trio Bell Always are premiering their new song Your Eyes.

Your Eyes is a spectral wall-of-noise that envelopes the listener. Gradually building from humble origins, this is a song that swells like a wave. With hushed vocals drenched in echo, melodic and introspective guitars and a rapid, transit-like rhythm, Your Eyes sounds like Radiohead written for urban-sprawl cracking in the heat. It’s a little bit Brutalist, a little bit Balearic.

The band have honed their sound through series of intimate sessions in Tel Aviv that saw audiences scatted through the room, removing the conventional boundary between performer and listener.

Check out You Eyes below and look out for Daylight Slowly Fades, due out next month.

Glowing

Stream: Glowing - Bora York

July 13, 2018 in stream

Glowing is the latest song from Minneapolis husband-and-wife duo Bora York, and their first song in three years.

A song about unconditional love, Glowing captures that feeling of being so in love with someone that nothing else matters. As songwriter Chris Bartels describes it:

“It’s about being so in love with someone that it doesn't matter what they look like at any given time, or what their mood is, or anything really—this type of love goes way beyond feelings. No matter what, this person is always glowing to you.”

Glowing is the kind of joyful sounding sunbeam of a record I just can’t really resist. Full of tight layered percussion and jubilant melodies, this is the sound of bouncing down the street with your head full of someone who warms your heart up and makes you smile involuntarily.

Whilst the band have been busy growing their family together and writing music for side projects, they have always been working on the next phase of Bora York. Expect more to come in the wake of Glowing.

"Glowing" is a summer love anthem, and the official introduction to Bora York's new era. Stream / Download: http://smarturl.it/borayork-glowing http://borayork.com With the glamour on the line Traveling hearts, bloom on sight Peering through mirror haze Bearing down former days All these daydreams living You’re an honest smile, without lies All these daydreams living With only you I come alive Rich, poor, sad or laughing Jeans, dress, crying or dancing It feels like we’re floating Because babe you’re glowing, yeah, babe you’re glowing Walking off hollow words Forward now, not turning back Warm is all I am with you Closing heart wounds I've wrapped Singing, talking, sleeping No matter what you’re feeling Lord knows that we’re floating Because babe you’re glowing, yeah, babe you’re glowing

Rasmus Faber & Metaxas

Be Real

Stream: Be Real - Rasmus Faber & Metaxas

June 26, 2018 in stream

A slow by disco joint, Be Real is the first collaboration between Swedish musician Rasmus Faber and Greek singer-songwriter Metaxas.

Be Real is a warm sun kissed groove combined that features a vulnerable falsetto vocal about the importance of being genuine and vulnerable in a relationship. There is a beautiful reassuring feel to this song - like someone peeling back the layers and being true with what they feel.

Check out Be Real below for sunny disco feels:

The new single ‘Be Real’ marks the first collaboration between Swedish artist Rasmus Faber and Greek singer-songwriter Metaxas, to be released on June 15th via Majestic Casual Records. Swedish producer, pianist, DJ, all-round multi-talented, hardworking nice guy Rasmus Faber now sits comfortably alongside electronic dance music’s royalty. 2018 sees Rasmus celebrate his 15th year of releases on his own label Farplane alongside a slew of releases via labels like Global Underground, Defected, Hed Kandi and Subliminal featuring team-ups with Kaskade, Candi Staton, Axwell, Pete Tong and Deadmau5 to name a few over the years. His recent artist releases have been topping the charts in Japan and gracing radio airplay charts while reaching a whole new audience of fans and doing his bit for the burgeoning Swedish music legacy. Whilst his production, musical and quality credentials ensure the longtime fans stay with him for the ride. With a host of new musical projects in the making from anime TV and movie sound tracks to solo piano material and numerous new collaborations, it’s looking like another 15 years of passport abuse for the Stockholm born Rasmum Faber. Metaxas performs with a unique sense of subtlety, versatility and intimacy. Channeling his Folk & Americana influences, he instills a raw emotion onto every vocal line, blending old with new. With musical influences like Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver and Bonobo, it is no surprise that Metaxas has mastered a writing style that is honest, sensitive and atmospheric. Mixing his raw expressive lyrics with his gravelly, yet warm voice, Metaxas produces a magical union that is nothing short of captivating. Together the two have crafted a nu-disco slow jam with warm and smooth falsetto crooning vocals and pulsing synths that highlights the importance of being genuine in a relationship. The collaboration is a moulding of two worlds from both artists who have used their songwriting abilities to write something in a space of its own. “We got in touch through our mutual friend Alliz Espi, and I ended up sending Metaxas this slow instrumental track I had. He came back to me with a killer vocal he wrote and recorded, and it worked straight away! We went back and forth on it a bit, and I could tell Metaxas shared my sense of perfectionism which I really appreciate! We’ve been talking about recording a live version of this song too, which would actually be the first time we met in person. Gotta make that happen, that would be magical!” - Rasmus Faber “‘Be Real’ is a song about dialling back the individuality in relationships, and the empty promises. It is a reality check on the basic human needs of love and selfless support of each other.” - Metaxas 'Be Real' will be released on June 15th via Majestic Casual Records.

Chemistry

Video: Chemistry - Helen

June 24, 2018 in video

Helen is a singer-songwriter hailing from Romania’s Bucharest who has already established her name in her home country as a writer for both domestic and international artists and is now showcasing her identity as a solo artist.

On new single Chemistry, Helen has created a perfect pop record that channels the same retro-futurist pop known we expect from the likes of Robyn and La Roux. This is one of those records that just flows beautifully - robotic bass, oscillating wave-like synth patterns and Helen’s cool, understated vocal. The layers here create something that sounds simple and is yet packed with detail.

Talking about her experience making music for herself, Helen says:

"Although I started writing music for other artists at the age of 14, I had to constantly deal with the media clichés telling me I couldn’t make it, because I didn’t have the so called pop image and body and that I should only stick to songwriting. That triggered a lot of anxiety during those years and even depression at some point because I constantly felt that I have to change who I am in order to be an artist and for my music to be appreciated. I almost gave up on the idea of having my own project, but the music kept coming, as a reminder that you can’t shut down something that’s part of you and needs to manifest. So I decided that in order to try and become something that I’m not, I should raise awareness and a voice in a post communist society, still learning to deal with diversity, acceptance and difference.”

The Millennial Club

Santa Barbara

Stream: Santa Barbara - The Millennial Club

June 23, 2018 in stream

The Millennial Club are a southern-Californian based dream pop outfit who aim to blend 80s pop with 90s R&B to create a romance-inspired sound that feels inherently Californian.

Santa Barbara is The Millennial Club’s first single of 2018 and it is the aural equivalent of a swoon: a sharp exhale of breath when it feels like your heart can’t keep stay inside any more and all your insides might come out.

The track captures the feel of California coastline drives with a close friend - the melodies all so soft and the vocals breathless and pouring out in quick succession. Santa Barbara has the feeling of what might happen when someone has finally uncorked the bottle on how they feel. Able to articulate their feelings for someone for the first time, all these bottled up emotions are finally able to seek the oxygen they have craved for so long.

Check out Santa Barbara below:

The Millennial Club - Santa Barbara [verse 1] seems strange to write a song about someone looking in the rearview, dreaming about the lone sun I’m not really thinking about the waves or about the next one not really about that, you didn’t ever like that and the way you feel to me is all the truth now I’m not really sure how I love you and that’s wow I’m learning so much about love [verse 2] of course I’ll make the drive on up to see you 2 hours is nothing, 2K was a bit too much for my heart to handle threw me down left me so cold and I could never see it in my mind that my God is always with me and he’s got me in line but thinking that i gotta know the future is the part that keeps me up late at night [chorus] it keeps me up late night night, all night it keeps me up late night [verse 3] cuz i got used to writing about nothing then you came around and girl you finally gave me something and I don’t wanna be a cliche, but kissing you babe I’m on my knees and praying you’re gonna stay was seven years but God knew I could handle it, the getting and forgetting who I was was just a part of it but wow I like you [bridge] and I don’t wanna tell u that I know what you’re going through cuz I probably don’t but I gotta be honest with you baby cuz I bet your friends probably won’t and I could never see it in my mind that my God is always with me and he’s got me in line but thinking that I gotta know the future is the part that keeps me up late at night [chorus] night, night it keeps me up late night night, all night it keeps me up late night it keeps me up late night night, all night keeps me up late at, keeps me up late at
