Young Summer

Stream: Paused Parade - Young Summer

July 18, 2016 in stream

Less than a month on from releasing her track Alright, Washington DC artist Young Summer is back with another track from her forthcoming EP.

Where Alright was an upbeat yet wistful pop record dealing with unrequited love Paused Parade is a beautifully played love song. Written with Matt Hales (aka Aqualung), whose credits include Lianne La Havas and Bat For Lashes, Paused Parade is Young Summer's most cinematic track yet. With hushed pianos and brushed drums, Young Summer's over-dubbed vocals take on a transparently vulnerable sound that feels like a perfect moment from a dream holiday.

Paused Parade feels like a whole new view into what Young Summer is capable of... I can't wait to hear the rest of the EP.

Stream: Tell You - Pusher ft. Hunnah

July 17, 2016 in stream

Announcing his debut six-track EP New Laces musician, producer and DJ Pusher has recently unveiled new track Tell You. Working with Hunnah, who provided the soulful R&B-style vocals to this track, Toronto-based Pusher has created a slice of neon-pop with serious 90s R&B vibes... I can't get enough of it!

Describing the process of creating Tell You, Pusher says “I was experimenting with some new sounds, new song forms, and trying to never take any ‘easy ways out’"... That's something that comes out in the eclectic feel the track evokes. Check it out below...

Talos

Stream: Your Love Is An Island - Talos

July 14, 2016 in stream

Your Love Is An Island is the new track from Talos. Likened to James Blake and Bon Iver, the Cork artist has crafted a fragile song that gently weaves its path through textures and ambient noise.

The track is taken from the O Sanctum EP and was produced by Talos together with Valgeir Sigurðsson, with mixing by Valgier at Greenhouse Studios in Iceland. With remixes on the EP that include work by Sin Fang, it is clear Talos, real name Eoin French, feels at least some level of connection to Iceland... A land that reflects the stark beauty of French's music.

Describing Your Love Is An Island, Talos says:

“Your love is an island, I’m scorched in the sands of it…"

“The image described in the last lines sum up what the song is about for me - the struggle to find that sense of peace that only comes from attaining ones dreams and desires. The idea of being so close but still so far from salvation - and not knowing if you'll ever really find it even if reached.”

Listen to Your Love Is An Island below and check out the video further down...

Kiah Victoria

Stream: I Ain't Goin Nowhere - Kiah Victoria

July 14, 2016 in stream

Back for more after the success of her debut track Cold War, New York musician Kiah Victoria has this week unveiled her second track.

I Ain't Goin Nowhere is a propulsive soul number the feels like Erykah Badu given some production support from her ex, André 3000. The result is scatterbrain but infectious and upbeat, in contrast to the equally beautiful, soaring balladry of Cold War.

Victoria describes the track in her own words:

"I feel like this song is my anti-self-doubt mantra. We dance with the idea that we're not worthy, but all the while, we already know what's good. I'm capable. We're capable. Good shit is happening and I can simply take it in and run with it. In other words."

If she can keep making music anywhere near as good as these first two tracks then I'm going to keep listening... Kiah is definitely one to watch.
