Karl Kling

Video: I Will Wait - Karl Kling

June 25, 2015 in video

I Will Wait is the new 80s-influenced electro-dream-pop song from Portland-based musician Karl Kling. The accompanying video is inspired by David Lynch and this translates into a surreal, dream--like quality in keeping with the record itself. The deadpan vocal delivery on the verse serves to heighten the impact of the melodic chorus once it hits, and I can't help but love the fuzzy sleepy heart of this record.

I Will Wait is taken from Karl Kling's eponymous debut album, out now via Ghost Beach's Crazy Heart Records. Listen in full-via Spotify below.

Best On ft. Tei Shi - Luca

Stream: Best On ft. Tei Shi - Luca

June 19, 2015 in stream

Full of short-skirted easy-going summer vibes, Best On is the debut track from Luca, who has recently focused on building a producer platform for artists including Tei Shi. Here Tei Shi provides guest vocals in what Luca hopes will be a template for future collaborations - in his own words:

"I work with a lot of people on helping bring their music to life.  Val (Tei Shi) is one of them.” explains Luca, continuing  "I made the beat and sent it to Val, she did her thing, and it's become another extension of our collaboration. A first of many I'd like to release with a variety of artists."

Look out for the official release on Luca's own label Garden Party.

Alice Ivy

Stream: Paint Me Blue - Alice Ivy

June 18, 2015 in stream

Pretty new single from Australian artist Alice Ivy. Paint Me Blue is an atmospheric and smoky soul track. It's a gorgeous track, but throw in the fact that 80% of the sales are going to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and it is pretty hard to justify why you wouldn't want to buy it.

Stream the track below and visit Alice's Bandcamp to buy the track and support the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

You can see Alice up close and personal on her forthcoming European tour:

June 17 - Philco Fiction

Stream: June 17 - Philco Fiction

June 17, 2015 in stream

This new single from Oslo band Philco Fiction, it's kind of gorgeous. And exactly the sort of thing I want from my Scandinavian bands. I.e. meticulously paced and gorgeously understated. Also: that cover.

I don't have a bio, just this gloriously obtuse passage from band member Turid Alida:

June 17 2012 - Bad weather. Preaching ‘This is not the summer of 92’ on a piece of paper. I soon find myself watching full length 90s rave parties, drowning in deep house, googling ’THE summer of 92’. Yes, bad weather makes me wanna go back in time. And the early 90s is where I wanna go. To me, it's bright, big and beautiful. The music, the preachers, the wars, the vibrations, the illusions, the summers were different. I try to remember one single rainy day from my childhood, but I just can't. Summer never cheated on the 90s, I promise. Like I would ever lie about such things as the weather.  - Turid Alida

Stream: Ra (Luka Remix) - The Acid

June 10, 2015 in stream

More great stuff from Adam Freeland's three-piece band The Acid. Here 23-year-old producer Luka gives album track Ra a dreamy, thick ambient synth-heavy R&B rework.
